NBW Posted July 21 Posted July 21 Hi all We have pulled our house apart and have removed the old staircase. We have changed stair location and are now at a point of looking at stair building websites. We are unsure whether to wait and plaster the walls or is it common to fit the stairs then plaster the walls. As you can see the stairs runs across 3 walls. We have had a few windows and doors moved so there is a lot to replaster around the staircase. Do we - Order and fit the staircase to the have the walls plastered? - plaster the walls and then order and fit the staircase? Thanks
Nickfromwales Posted July 21 Posted July 21 You defo need the stairs in first, so it can be mechanically fixed to the fabric of the property. You ask the carpenter to space the stringers to the required spec, so the plasterboard doesn't then accidentally finish flush with the stringers. Are these block walls?
NBW Posted July 21 Author Posted July 21 Thanks for the reply. Yes they are block walls. Tomorrow I will get some better photos. Thanks for confirming to put the stairs in first
Nickfromwales Posted July 21 Posted July 21 I used Stairpartsdirect for a project in Leicester, for a very nice oak staircase for a clients build, and they provided a great turnkey service including all the glass procured local to the job and delivered to site. If you give them some dimensions etc they will do a 3D render for you. Other stair providers are available...
