Hi Folks.

Looking to put new stones on very large driveway and because I cant be arsed  with dealing with weeds, i want to negate their return as much as possible, do any recommendation for very effective weed membrane please?

Also there is existing growth present which I’ve taken down as much as possible, am I right to think that weedkiller then weed membrane over it will sort that?

Cheers

We have a fairly large driveway area covered with 20mm chippings. No membrane was used on the advice of the landscaper. He said it was a waste of money as the stones would tear into the membrane and allow the weeds to flourish regardless.

We don't suffer from weeds and I think that is due to the preparation of the sub base. Yes, the odd one will appear but they are quickly and easily dealt with.

As for existing growth, weedkiller would do the trick but I think the answer lies in the sub base preparation. Get that right and save yourself the cost of a membrane.

We get loads of weeds in our gravel drive. We don't have a weed membrane, but the weed are wind driven seeds that land in the gravel and root in the wind driven soil from the fields around us. So would be there with or without membrane.

20 mins with a spray backpack and weedkiller once a year does the trick.
