Stoph43 Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Hello Gang, we looking to get your thought / advice or any experience from anyone who has used Marmox Thermoblocks. - Where building a simple timber frame 2 story new build - Frame delivery is in a few months 140mm wall with an additional 100mm PIR inside, on concrete slab with 150mm PIR on top followed by screen - We're just finishing excavating the strip foundations and about to order the concrete. Cross section of the foundations below - Is it worth us adding a layer of Thermoblocks in between the 2 x 140mm block courses? (shown in RED arrow) Would they benefit in our situation? Would be great to hear your thoughts, Thanks
JohnMo Posted June 23 Posted June 23 Can you add an attachment - not sure what you have added but it doesn't open. I found the gains weren't worth the cost. I used thermolite blocks, with engineered bricks on top to attach stud walls.
Alan Ambrose Posted June 23 Posted June 23 I don't think there's an alternative when you need to (a) support a load and (b) maintain a reasonable thermal barrier. Most good thermal insulators won't support much of a load unless it's spread across a large surface area.
Post and beam Posted June 23 Posted June 23 If i knew before i started what i now know about the detailing required to meet the requirements i would have used Marmox everywhere. Heres why.... Our SIPs build requires 60mm PIR upstands around the outer walls and 25mm PIR for the internal walls. The inner walls were a nightmare to accomodate and not cause issues with them sticking proud of the plasterboard. All told the time required to measure cut and fit all of these upstands is/was a total pain in the backside. Time i could ill afford. Only when i finished did i discover that Marmox under the sole plate makes this unnecessary. It would have been worth the cost to have used them. 2

There is This my strip foundation structural drawings. We fine tuned it a little, for internal walls. Inverting the engineering brick on top of thermolite.
