I brought a property 6 months ago, the house was built in 2021. In the last two months my waste drain got blocked twice. I have found the rason why its getting blocked, the solution looks to be more complex. The waste drain is on my own driveway which is private property (freehold). It appears that my waste pipe connects to a communal one which runs along in everyones driveway. &nbsp

The issue appears to be when I flush my upstairs toilets the waste come out of the pipe (circuled in red) instead of going down the centra pipe due to the fast speed it travels it overshoots and gets stuck in the blue section, this would then build up and fall into the central pipe and cause a blockage.

Does anyone know how can this be fixed and would it be my responsibility as its on my driveway or the water authority. IMG_6709.thumb.jpeg.b40844677496818caf2f87626b497954.jpeg

I think you’ve identified the problem. The solution is probably to move the entry pipe and add a bend before the inspection chamber a little so it’s working in the straight-through direction. It’s worth checking the falls to other ICs before and after if you can see them. Hire a drainage consultant and/or some groundworkers to do the job?

What connects to the bit circled blue?

Nothing connects to the section where the blue circle is, just my connection into that central pipe. I think other houses on the road are also connected to the central pipe as there is an opening from the top (green circle)

The design of the waste drain does not appear be the best

Was reading up who’s responsibility it would be I know the drain is in my private driveway but the the waste pipes/drains are all located on everyones property, the the central pipe is share there is nothing on the main road apart from fresh water drains. It might be the responsibility of the local authority/water company.

My own internet research points out that anything that is shared even if on private would not be the responsibility of the homeowner but not to sure can anyone confirm this?

If a negative can prove a positive this may help...

My Water Authority confirmed that my combined (RW and soil) drainage is Private because there is no connection *on my property* with anyone else's drainage. If your 'central pipe' runs from house to house that seems to me to suggest a Public Sewer. Though I could be wrong...
