We're looking to finalise the front door specification for our certified passive house.

For the front door we're planning on using the passive house certified door blank from Latham timber:

We want a multi point lock on the front door and they recommend Glutz locks:

Our architect spoke to Glutz and none of their locks are passive house certified apparently. Is this something we need to worry about? Will a lock create a noticeable thermal bridge in a passive house?

Couple of things.

1. The company selling the door should offer a U value for the door and frame including the lock and the package will be certified so no need to worry about that.

2. When we had our air test the leak through the mortise locks were vey noticeable so we will need to fit covers on then eventually. We still managed 0.2 on the Passive house scale but every little helps.

The Latham's passive door blank is a bit of a "DIY" option. We are based in a conservation area so need a door blank type offering that we can customise on the outside to meet our planning conditions. We can't use go for one of the options that one of the well known passive house window and door suppliers has sadly.

The Latham's door does have a passive house certificate, but it isn't clear to me that includes the lock:

Interesting link, the certificate says is valid only until 2015 but it looks like a current product on their website, it must come with a lock and if it is a certified product then that's you sorted. Judging by the video on the web site about the Moralt system it look like you specify what you want and they build it.

You can inject a dense gel (like a silicone lubricant) into the key insert to stave off cold air blowing in, as this causes quite a lot of condensation on even all of the best (more expensive) lock sets I’ve seen on the numerous Passivhaus projects I’ve undertaken.

They’re always taped over for our air tests.

Now go lube your locks and we’ll hear no more of this nonsense. 👍

Naaah.   Tonight it’s lightsaber practise.  Shall I use the green or the red one? (Yes, I do genuinely have two!)
