Ay8452 Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Hi guys, My engineer is on holiday and would be grateful if someone with more experience can help me here. For the bottom plate on this beam, where it says 25mm max overhang, does that mean, A - the blockwork (outer skin 100mm) can overhang the bottom plate by max 25mm so only 75mm is supported by the actual bottom plate B - OR does it mean the bottom plate can extend MAX 25mm past the outer skin blockwork? For reference, wall spec is 100mm blockwork inner leaf, 100mm cavity, 100mm blockwork outer leaf. Thanks!
Nickfromwales Posted April 11 Posted April 11 That’s as clear as mud, but I think it refers to the 10mm welded plate which supports the outer block skin finishing no closer to the face of the block than 25mm, ergo there will be 25mm of block unsupported. So A methinks, but another pic with the cross sectional drawing should be in your possession too?
saveasteading Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Do you have this beam already with the plate welded to the bottom? Unlikely, as we don't know how wide it is. A cross section would explain all. If your Engineer is a sole practitioner, message them....it is part of the job, and character building. If they are in a bigger practice, get someone else to answer. In my mind this will be a 10mm plate the width of the beam, 102mm, plus cavity, unknown, and outer skin, presumably 100mm, then less 25mm, as the steel is not to be exposed. Buy we should not be guessing. It should also specify the weld and not leave that to the fabricator. Then there are the plates..welded outside of the beam for some reason. I see you have to galvanise it after fabrication. Sorry, only the designer knows what is intended.
