Rachelmc Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Hi, I've just had a new boiler installed and I'm worried it isn't sufficiently insulated. Unfortunately it's been installed right up against an external wall in the closet return of our house. I'm looking at getting foam insulation for around those pipes with enough clearance but was wondering if anybody has advice for additional insulation I could put in? Boiler pictures.docx
Mr Punter Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Just get as thick a wall of insulation as you can around all the hot pipes. Cable ties are useful.
marshian Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Wow that all looks quite snug Clearances around some of the pipes where they cross over looks tight for decent thick wall pipe insulation Has the room got any other heat source in it - clearly someone does the ironing in there
Rachelmc Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 It's got plug points but no other heat source. I was wondering if I should put insulation around multiple pipes in one go where they are close together but no idea if you can get insulation good for that - as opposed to the stuff that goes round individual pipes.
Rachelmc Posted February 16 Author Posted February 16 Otherwise would foil insulation wrap do anything? Obviously not as good as proper thick insulation but wondering if it would be better than nothing or not worth the faff.
JohnMo Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Cylinder and boiler are within the heated envelop of the building, so any heat losses are going into the building, so winter time heat losses don't go to waste. Summer time cylinder and pipe losses are not useful. So you need to insulate for that. Space looks very tight. I would as a minimum insulate the hot cylinder pipe top for first meter. And the flow and return from the boiler where practical.
