Hi,

After years of talking about it, we are now retired and close to buying a plot in North Surrey. It will be for us and will hopefully be our forever home. Not done this before and hopefully won’t do it again. So, sorry in advance for any silly questions.

I’ve asked many, many dozens of daft questions on here and as a result learnt tons.  I believe our build will be massively better as a result.

You'll likely find googling to search in here is very effective, and many of my questions I’ve found answers to that way, as there’s a huge wealth of info in previous threads.  But if you don’t find the answer ask, and others may learn from the ensuing debate too.

Welcome, and good luck with the purchase.

Always keep one eye on a potential sale As forever homes are rarely that

We’ve added two extra bathrooms that we will never use and heating on the first floor also

Enjoy the process It’s a good time to start a self build with material and labour costs quite stable

Overall in life. It's best to build 3 times.

The first build is for your enemy.

The second for a friend.

The third is your forever home.

I'm starting my third, and when I look back, I'm not far off. When looking forward, I'm happy it's the last.

I've lived in both houses with lots of joy, so don't worry about that 😁
