making a bar from wood (man cave style)

Would like to make a bar like this so it looks as neat and cheap as possible

 

Thinking of using old pallets for the side of the bar. But not sure how to get the nails out of the pallets so it dose not split the timber, and what paint I should use?

 

What kind of wood and paint do you think I should use for the work top?

 

And same question again for the skirting boards? 

 

I all ready have some old fence post wood that I am considering using for the frame. But I am unsure of how to attach all of the above to the frame as nails and screws would look so tack?

 

Any advice please?

@Onoff, excellent. Seems to me, OP, that you'll only maybe need 1 row of 'visible' fixings in the middle of the height of the pallet-wood, since the top and bottom 'skirtings' can trap the rest. I would use oval nails, punch below the surface of the wood and use coloured filler to hide the punch-marks. The likely 'mottling' of the pallet-wood will probably help to hide them too. Edit: Make sure to 'acclimatise' the pallet-wood to its intended environment before you commit to any fixings.

I looked up pallet buster and found one like this

Check out YouTube for how to dismantle pallets. Generally involves a bfo lump hammer and block of wood to start with.
