Restraint Type Joist Hangers

Hello All

 

I am completing a large extension to the facade and return wall on an existing cottage.  I have reached first floor joist level but am having a bit of a problem ldentifying a suitable  "Restraint Type Joist Hanger" as stipulated in Diagram 15c of the attached Building Regulations.  I cannot continue with the blockwork until I have identified a means of building in a joist hanger that will provide longditudinal restraint of the joist which must be installed later.  The reasons that the joists must be installed later are because of the internal scaffolding (which arguably could be removed upon joist/temporary floor installation) but also the fact that the existing end wall as seen on the LHS of Photo 2 is due to be removed entirely after the property has been re-roofed following completion of the block and brick work.

 

There are a number of Hanger and Tie combinations but these are more expensive and complex than the type in shown in Building Regulations.  The trouble is: I cannot find anything like these hangers despite an extensive internet search!  The other problem I have is even if I find some of these hangers that allow me to drop joists in later, I still have to get the joists under the lateral ties that must be built in accross the first three joists!

 

The only other option I can think of is to build in traditional restraint straps thoughout and then offer up the joists and hangers to them when the time comes.

 

Any ideas on a way forward with this would be appreciated!

Use one of these hooked into the cavity 1500x2mil thick are best They need to span three  joists Take a 2 mil notch out of the top of the joist to stop the floorboards rocking You will also need to nog under the strap and nail or screw the strap down

Thanks Mike that link is a good source but implies the joists must be built in before the next block course.  Nod: those are exaactly the ones I am using accross the joists but what about joist ends/hangers?

No, you can just build in the hanger and add the joist later - just drop them in from above. Except where you need the lateral restraint straps too.
