chriz1
Hi My Kitchen is over the cellar and to make things worse the floor is made of concrete lintels ! So gets really cold this time of the year , I've tried to seal up the cellar door as best I can and foam between the lintels. But I guess the lintels are just acting as a huge sponge and sucking away any heat and radiating cold into the room. It's laminate flooring aswel. I'm thinking of sticking 100mm insulation board to the underside of the lintels in the cellar. Is this likely to work and make it a bit warmer, obviously It will take a while to warm up the lintels like the rest of the house but should the heat then retain better? JohnMo
You need to look and see how things connect in the cellar. If the lintel is connected to another cold source (e.g. wall then floor), the lintel will stay cold no matter how much insulation you put under it. So you may need to install insulation in house floor instead. 25mm (or more) under the floor finish would make a big difference.
