mjc55 Posted Tuesday at 20:42 Share Posted Tuesday at 20:42 So pleased for you, it must have been such a worry while you were trying to sort out. Fair play to the CIL department as well, the stuff that I read on here seems to indicate that they are a fairly unforgiving bunce.

Not taking it for granted at all - this issue needs to headline news on all things self build related. @Berkshire_selfbuid if you were willing to share a little more publicly, please consider dropping some of the self-build magazines / the NSBRC, pitched as a ‘near miss’ type of event. I guarantee at least one person would benefit from it. Magazines: Build it Homebuilding & Renovating Design Buy Build NSBRC - not sure if they have a publication / advisory information resource.

Yes agreed and more than happy to share my experiences. Potentially such huge amount of sums involved, and an experience to completely break someone, and even a family. Yes they did deliver in the end but only due to me not receiving the CIL liability letter through the post and them having no evidence of sending it. It’s the only thing that saved me. G and J Posted Tuesday at 23:28 Share Posted Tuesday at 23:28 (edited) I suspect you were saved by the fact that your CIL bods are as nice as they are here in East Suffolk. I also suspect they used the notice thing to sidestep any difficulty they may have had in doing what they felt was right. In your shoes I’d be hand delivering a really big pack of choccies and a handwritten notelet thanking them for such a rapid and positive response. In our society we are first class at moaning and often really crap at saying thank you. Berkshire_selfbuid Posted Wednesday at 13:13 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 13:13 (edited) A recap of what you must do to ensure you don’t go through my nightmare which thankfully got resolved: During planning stage, complete and submit CIL PAAIR Form (CIL Form 1). Prior to commencement of build, complete an Assumption of Liability Form (Form 2) and submit it to the Local Authority. Submit a Self-Build Exemption Claim Form, Part 1 (Form 7) confirming you meet all the qualifying criteria for a self-build development. Do not commence development before the Local Authority has confirmed the grant of relief. Prior to commencement of development, submit a Commencement Notice (Form 6) to the Local Authority and the Local Authority must acknowledge receipt. Within 6 months following completion of the development, submit the Self-Build Exemption Claim Form, Part 2 (Form 7) to the Local Authority together with supporting evidence.
