Any ideas what is happening with my PV array

No, they are both on the same inverter. I have an app that allows me to choose how to use the batteries (to the extent that I understand what to do). I can charge them from the grid overnight at a cheap rate, then they will discharge during the day to supplement supply.

It appears likely that the inverter is tripping out as it believes the local mains voltage is too high.  Before they start dismantling anything it might be worth getting them to check that the actual voltage at the inverter is close to the voltage reported on the app.  If the fault is the voltage sensor then it’ll identify which bit to swap out.

 

Good news is that you know how to check operation now.

Get someone who's familiar with doing this to show you where to measure, where to put the probes and which range to select. There's a fair chance of exposed bus bars behind the cover with 400vac on them that have got the potential to kill you and/or spoil your xmas.

Try that at the times you're getting the problem and see if it clears things up

First thing to learn, and you know a little bit of it already, is Ohm's Law.

The second thing to know is the resistivity of cables, well metals really.

Then, as others have said, how to use a multimeter.

Bigger is better as the writing on the dial is bigger, or maybe that me just getting old.

No need to buy an extra expensive one, I got one from Poundland, works well and the probes are pretty decent.

 

Final thing to know, and this helps with PV as there are some quirks, is it he fundamental difference between AC (alternating current) and DC (direct current). There is a reason that people say play safely with DC. 

Though Topsy the Elephant was actually dispatched with AC, though there had been a long running arguement about which type of power delivery was the safer.

 

Hopefully, all your AC side is covered by an RCD/RCBO. So your personal risk is low.
