mk1_man Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Hi all, I am currently using Octopus Cosy alongside 10 kWh of battery storage (no solar yet) it means we have been running our heat pump and the rest of the house at 12.72p kWh 24x7 I am currently looking to increase my battery capacity to 20kWh by adding an additional pair of 5kWh rack storage batteries due to an amazing deal of £649 each inc delivery ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOLITHIUM-Lithium-Battery-LiFePO4-Lifespan/dp/B0BS9BL6M9/ref=asc_df_B0BS9BL6M9?mcid=2881ba6285a83c6f9a20979621681b40&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=697230221025&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3251995294949021747&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046567&hvtargid=pla-2198438482546&gad_source=1&th=1 ) I am now considering moving to the Eon NextDrive tariff that offers 00:00 to 07:00 at 6.7p /kWh and running off the batteries for the rest of the day. Just wondering if anyone was doing similar?
ReedRichards Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Yes. I only have a 6.5 kWh battery but I charge it up overnight, charge my EV and get my heat pump going, including the DHW which I now heat to 55 C to make sure it lasts the day. All this before 07:00.
S2D2 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Which inverter are you using with those batteries? I'm on cosy with a small battery and can't make the sums add up to expand the battery storage with the official batteries.
mk1_man Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 I am using a 5kWh Sunsynk inverter. I have two Sunsynk batteries with comms to the inverter so charge / discharge is all good. The additional AOLithium batteries I am adding are being added in 'dumb' mode so are only connected electrically in parallel via the +ve & -ve 48v terminals. There is no active comms between them or to the existing Sunsynk batteries. As they are all same 16S architecture they charge and discharge in harmony. £649 ind free delivery and the cables (normally around £50 - £80) is an absolute bargain and too good to resist 🙂 the plan is to charge overnight and run the rest of the day on batteries. Payback circa 2 - 3 years. I have just been looking at the Tomato Lifestyle tariff, this gives 00:00 to 06:00 at 5p /kWh and a couple of other cheap periods a little like Cosy. 1
S2D2 Posted November 19, 2024 Posted November 19, 2024 Thanks for the explanation, unfortunately my solax battery is 102V. It's a very good price but I assume my inverter wouldn't be compatible which is a shame, solax batteries are twice the price! The tomato tariff looks interesting but the website errors out when I ask for a quote...
joth Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Looks like the Eon honeymoon is over. My one year renewal arrived: Import cheap rate is down from 7 to 6 hours. Price up from 6.7 to 7.5p Export is switching down from 16.5p to 6p per kWh!! Apparently as I'm on a TOU tariff i can't renew export to the higher paying Exclusive tariff. Despite the original renewal offer saying that's what I'd move to As expected they make the list of options complicated enough it's a maze to navigate in the hope you'd give up. Probably back to the even bigger maze of Octopus for me
MikeGrahamT21 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Yes i've noticed Eon rates have gone down for export, i'm on their fixed Export Exclusive V2 at 16.5p, but the V3 one currently the one you'd be put on is now 12.5p
Michael_S Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago WE are also on the 7 hour eon tariff (6.7p) and with V2H and 2 EVs we use up to about 80kwh from batts for our heat pump and general usage in the day rate period. Likely to try for utility warehouse E7 tariff when our eon ends in May, not sure about export at that point.
