Fd2024
Proposed floor plan 2.pdf Hello, Im in need of some assistance on whether or not I need a door to the kitchen/ Living area or not due to fire regs? This is a ground floor flat with a shared entrance, bedrooms are at the front of the house and double french doors are being put in the kitchen/living area. Currently I have left the door in the plan but would ideally like to remove it and leave it open. Thanks for the help in advanced
mjc55
I think it should be OK to remove, ground floor so exit via windows in bedrooms in case of fire. Others will be along to agree/disagree.
nod
As above You should be fine Quite a lot of apartments have the kitchen and living area together
kandgmitchell Posted Wednesday at 17:08 Share Posted Wednesday at 17:08 This is what Aproved Document B - Fire Safety says for ground floor flats: Escape from the ground storey 3.15 All habitable rooms (excluding kitchens) should have either of the following. a. An opening directly onto a hall leading to a final exit. b. An emergency escape window or door, as described in paragraph 3.6. Which pretty much covers your proposed layout
Conor Posted Wednesday at 19:04 Share Posted Wednesday at 19:04 (edited) Do you mean you want to remove the door from the kitchen - living area and the hall? If this is the case, all of the other habitable rooms need their own compliant access to the outside (not the hallway) as you effectively turn the hall into a kitchen. Fd2024 Posted Friday at 13:09 Author Share Posted Friday at 13:09 Thank you for you feedback, from my understanding I will need to include a door. Does this need to be fire rated or will any door be okay? Would FD30 be okay? Thanks

If you intend on never closing the door... Is there an option to is tall ot as pocket slider? You'll never know it's there but you'll still be compliant. Basically what we have. Only close it when I'm cooking something funky.
