October 28, 20241 yr I have a relatively large payment to make in the coming week or two (windows) and I would like to ensure, as best I can, that my payment is protected. As most will be aware payment for windows tend to be made in full prior to delivery, so it's one of the more financially risky packages, unfortunately I have experience having loss a ~£30k deposit to a bastard window company on a previous project. There is a great previous thread here which says that if any amount >£100 is made by credit card towards the payment, regardless of how the balance is paid the protection offered by the credit card covers the entire payment. I was just wondering if anyone know if this is still the case as the thread is a few years old.

FWIW, Idealcombi will not accept a credit card payment. I think it could be a good bargaining chip to use in negotiations; the job is yours but you must accept a £100 CC payment. TBH I'd happily reimburse the bank charge to gain the protection. To me it seems silly that a supplier would turn away a job on condition they accept what would be a small CC payment, it mustn't be a straight forward for them as I imagine.
October 28, 20241 yr My window supplier tried to argue against a credit card deposit until I offered to pay their charges. They accepted the deposit but never reclaimed the charges probably because it was less than £2.
