josebabh
Not sure what the best forum is for this - I hope this one is right. I am building new oak wood handrails to existing stairs. Currently the rear handrail is built to 900 height (floor to top of handrail), as seen in the photo. The other handrails will be built in the places as as (poorly) drawn in the picture. The landing on the left side of the picture is 820 wide. There will be glass between the floor and the handrail. We have a bit of a debate at home about the right height for the handrails next to the landings ie on the horizontal parts of the handrails. UK building regulations stipulate 900 to 1000, so that is the range. Some voices at home say that 900 is too low and feels unsafe. We have two children, 10 and 12 years old. May I please have the view from the collective wisdom here: In this particular situation, which height would you chose? Do you think 900 is safe or not? ProDave
900 is the requirement for a domestic stair.
