Window Survey

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just had our window survey and they are requesting we have all the stone slips fitted before they can measure the structural opening. Getting told different things that this is or not normally the case..

Is this normal? They are Velfac windows. Need to get them on order as the weather is on the move...

Any have any other suppliers in the south I could try?

Thanks

Do your stone slips after, not before.

We installed the window to the outside of the ICF, then overlapped the stone slips on to the window frame. Cut the slips to form a neat frame to the window.17259009750968391851349944582343.thumb.jpg.afde3da5540520d9b9fe4d2fab19c5f8.jpg

Sounds like the surveyor could have explained why much better but I think they're right - Velfac windows are fitted with a shadow gap (10-15mm) and the whole visible frame hinges open. See here

The gap is needed to give clearance for the frame to hinge within the opening, so nothing can be installed in front of the frame or they won't be able to open!

So, the slips will need to be in place first (and will slightly reduce your openings). A cut edge is a good idea to ensure a consistent gap

This is what I was expecting but the surveyor is unsisting not for Velfac.

He won't order with out it being on.

Maybe I need to change suppliers?

Some on here have used Norrsken they are in Poole. They have been very good with me and my numerous phone calls. We have only just started the build but been in touch with them 2 years.
