DIY novice
We have had a leaking gutter so have had a roofer to replace fascias, sofits and gutters, and also repointing the chimney . The roofer arranged for the scaffolding to be put up a few days before the job started . He advised the job would take a week ,It is now 6 weeks later - (admittedly we were away last week as we assumed work would be completed . ). We paid the money upfront for the scaffolding and also have now paid 2/3 of his costs . whilst work was ongoing the new guttering he had placed was leaking , he says that is now fixed. The roofer is now demanding his final payment as he says the job is compete , however when water is poured into the previous leaking gutter it stays there , he says this is normal and there isn't enough water? is this correct ? Also I don't want to pay the final amount whist the scaffolding is still up , or is this common practice . This is just causing us so much stress , we don't want to withhold money but equally we're worried about the scaffolding coming down if the guttering isn't right and also and any issues that may ensue when the scaffolding is removed as he says theres a lot of mess when it comes down . Thank you for reading and any advice much appreciated. Edited August 2, 2024 by DIY novice
joe90
Guttering should not “pool” but dead flat guttering will work, personally I always created a little slope when installing guttering. he took 6 weeks to do a weeks worth !!!”!
mike2016
Get a hosepipe and pour water onto one side of the roof furthest away from the gutter. Or fill a container and fling its contents onto the roof in the same place and watch the result? As long as no leaks you should be good. It does invite moss pools a bit quicker in the years to come but that's all.
