matt58k Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 Hi we are trying to decide between microcement and tiles. atm laying UFH so need to decide pretty soon. have a few tilers priced already but looking for micro cement recommendations. Any help appreciated. thanks Matt.
Mr Punter Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 For several years we have holidayed in a villa in Portugal. They had microcement and I saw many areas fail at considerable expense to the owner. It looked great at the outset. I would go with tiles.
garrymartin Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 We looked at it for our current en-suite remodel. Suppliers wouldn't provide a warranty for using it on the timber floor and shower tray. They seem happy if you're going on to a solid wall or floor, but it just doesn't seem to cope well with any movement and they said we could end up with micro-fractures that might leak. As it's a wetroom, we're back to tiles too.

We were close to going with micro cemenet / micro screed but in the end went with poured resin. If you've not had a good look into poured resin it may be worth considering.
AppleDown Posted July 23, 2024 Posted July 23, 2024 We visited a friend who microcement last year and we fell in love with it - so much so that we want a good 65m2 of it downstairs on the build. We've gone to a few different providers and each one uses a slightly different buildup. The two we've had the best experience with so far - and the ones with a more 'technical' approach - have been Forcrete and Topcret. There were a couple of local installers who quoted, but they simply just use a primer and then a couple of layers of product and a sealer. The two mentioned have a much more substantial process of building up the layers, adding strength etc. Yes it's all theory at the moment until we get it down - but from the time it takes to actually apply, the number of layers and the specific build up, I'm happy spending the extra £s on it vs tiles. We have also done our own 'scientific' stain testing with a few sample sheets on cement board. Went wild with the usual coffee, raspberries, spirulina and ketchup - baked in the sun and didn't leave a mark.
matt58k Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 Thanks for advice will call forcrete and topcrete. Any idea of pricing appreciated. C150/sqm so far 😞.
