moonbug
Hi, I am looking at fitting a through-the-wall aircon unit to a domestic property. The unit wants two 162mm diameter holes spaced 293mm apart horizontally (centre-to-centre, ie leaving 131mm of brickwork between them). I will need to drill these into a structural solid brick wall. The brickwork is in reasonable condition. I'm unsure of the thickness of the wall, I guess it's double brick. The holes will be on the ground floor of a two storey house. My questions are: * Will it be safe to drill these holes without placing any lintel support above them? * How far from the edge of the wall (corner of house) should these be? thank you! Dave Jones
wont need a lintle crack on. If it was new build it would need a tray above it though .....

Min distance should be no less than 3x the diameter of the hole, ideally 5x diameters. So 500-800mm ISH. How are you planning on making these openings? Hiring a core driller? 162mm will be tough work.
