Butil tape

Hi experts

 

Should i heat Butil tape to melt it onto what i want to repair.

Its fairly new roll but quite hard and not very sticky, and also a bit cold at the moment.

If so will a hair drier work?

Hair dryer and a small roller to press it into the surface.

From bitter experience... if you use a hot air gun (on low!) wear gloves. If you get it too hot your fingers will break through the oter layer into the molten hot butyl. It sticks and it burns. Can't tell you how I know.

I laid out a length onto the concrete floor, then went up and down the length with a blowtorch, just so the sheen on the tape changed, then picked it up using the backing tape and then wacked it onto whatever I was sticking (dpm to dpm, or wall to dpm) then pressed it into place and used an old wallpaper roller to flatten it out, leave the backing tape on until you want to stick to it.
