Kitchen ceiling mould

Hi,

We discovered that the ceiling in our kitchen has traces of mould growing through plasterboard. I was wondering if anything could be done apart from replacing it. Is it possible to add an anti-mould reagent to the plaster mixture? Would using a special anti-mould paint (such as Suretherm Thermal Anti-Condensation Paint and/or Zinsser’s Mould Resistant Paint) be enough? I'd appreciate any advice.

I think you need to establish the cause of the mold first, leakage (internal or external) or lack of ventilation. Kitchens tend to be like bathrooms producing lots of moisture.

You can buy a sensor to measure humidity and see when it's highest. Vent as much as possible, open windows when cooking etc. Make sure exhaust fans / extractor hoods vent to outside and not just into a cavity. Does a lot of steam build up in that area?
