joseywales Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Hi all, My name is Joe and I'm a carpenter in the process of the complete renovation of an 1920s end of terrace. Plans are to insulate, extend to the rear and loft convert.. since the house has been completely gutted I think now will be the best time! Have joined the forum as I have many questions... 😂 1
SteamyTea Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Welcome As it is gutted, now is the very best time to deal with the air leakage.
markc Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Hi and welcome, as above - gutted properties make life so much easier
joseywales Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 Thanks guys! It sure is leaky at the moment haha! The House still has the original slate roof without membrane, unfilled wall cavities without closers at eaves/window openings... single glazing.
SteamyTea Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 Don't fall into the trap of just making the inside airtight. You need to stop air bypassing the insulation. Then worry about ventilation, MVHR is best and easy to fit when the place is empty.
joseywales Posted January 27, 2024 Author Posted January 27, 2024 Thanks for the advice! MVHR is something I will need to do some reading up on.
