Complete novice, but keen to learn

I'm never sure how to introduce myself in person, let alone on a website where I'm probably the least knowledgeable and inexperienced on the site.

 

Anyway, my wife and I have recently bought our first house, and there are things that need doing. We've spent money on electricians and plumbers, but I'd like to give some things a go myself to not only save money but also gain experience and confidence.

 

Apologies in advance if I get any terminology wrong or ask anything stupid, and thanks to anyone who will give their time to help.
