Chimney on single skin wall!

Hi All,

 

I have acquired a house where I discovered some shocking workmanship after beginning some work.

 

The chimney has been partly removed, and supported on gallows, which have been installed on the party wall now exposed by removing part of the stack. This wall is single skin!

I added some timber probs immediately to reduce risk of it all collapsing. 

 

SE advices to use RSJ, full width of the house, or two half lengths resting on the spine wall.

Another SE has provided an alternative solution which I want your thoughts on.

 

Support both remaining stacks as show in red with gallows installed in the double skin wall. Rebuild the remaining angles stacks with brick/block using wall ties inserted in-between mortar joints and fixed with resin. I just have a doubt of how solid rebuilding the angled stack will be given its at an angle....

Is it a detached house or semi? 

 

One option might be to take down the chimney above the roof and (possibly) replace with fake/fiberglass..

its a Semi, but the chimney in question is on party wall.

 

Yes waiting to speak to neighbour to see if they are keen on taking down, but would like to know my options if otherwise. 

 

Other option is rebuild removed brickwork and leave chimneys in place. However, im not confident the brickwork can be rebuilt at original angle and still be strong enough to hold the weight....

Nothing wrong with re instating the brickwork as it was originally built, but it beggars belief why someone should go to the trouble of removing just a segment of those chimneys?
