steveoelliott Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 I'm planning on having a safe installed and bolted to a concrete floor downstairs in our house. The challenge however is identifying if any pipes run within the floor. These should only be radiator pipes if so but with there being a radiator close by on the other side of the wall, it's of course a possibility. What can I do to check this? I have heard of thermal imaging cameras to check for heating pipes on the basis that you run the heating and then verify from the heat emitted on the flow and return. Just wondered if there were any other suggestions as I don't have access to one.
Conor Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Turn heating on full temp, use your hand on the bare concrete or a cheap infrared thermometer. 1
Redbeard Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) Probably a simple Infra Red thermometer would do it. If you run 50-60 degree flow temp those pipes would be hard-pushed to 'hide'. Edited October 2, 2023 by Redbeard Cross-posted with @Conor 1

On reflection, I might invest in a cheap thermal imager from Amazon. Might come in hand for other things too.
