Post and beam Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 This is more of a question of ' what happens if....' In a very airtight house under conditions where a fire starts. If your MVHR unit has a shut down/seals off air supply does the fire extinguish before any real damage is done? The level of oxygen that will put a fire out is not that low and will certainly still support life. No i dont intend to put it to the test
Kelvin Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 When our friends self-build caught fire the actual fire damage was minimal (just the roof) but the rest of the house was ruined due to smoke damage and water damage.
Mike Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 On balance I'd imagine that it would be a plus to keep the MVHR unit running to provide some measure of smoke extraction during the evacuation. But it would be interesting to read something from a fire safety engineer.
