seano
We're buying an agri stable/tractor shed and workshop with PP for conversion to resi. The building is currently insured by NFU. When I spoke to them about covering us as new owners they turned it down. I'm finding this complicated and wonder of anyone has advise on how to insure the building in 3 phases: As it is -basic agri building > then a building having work done > then a residential building. Any pointers welcomed. Thanks
IanR
I'm surprised the NFU wouldn't continue to insure you until the build started, but they don't cover self-build insurance. I used www.tradedirectinsurance.co.uk for self-build, NFU before and https://www.frontierinsurance.co.uk , now it's a home. Frontier should insure before the build starts, they're very flexible with outbuildings etc. I've actually moved all our buildings insurance over to them, from the NFU. I'm surprised too but once I mentioned conversion they got blinkered and that was that. TBH the person I spoke to wasn't the sharpest and just flat out refused it. I asked why they wouldn't continue as a agri building work started and just got a blank. Top tips though - I'll check out https://www.frontierinsurance.co.uk first. Kelvin
That is odd. I’d try another office or speak to someone else. Our house insurance, some equipment and the animals are through NFU and we added the plot of land to the overall policy (land owners insurance) They made it clear that as soon as we started groundworks it wasn’t covered and we’d need site insurance which they don’t do. We went with Protek which cost £1066 for 12 months. Edited February 24, 2023 by Kelvin
