Two way switch: one physical, one smart?

Is it possible to set things up so that you can turn on a light either by a (non-smart) physical switch or a smart switch/app?

So conceptually you start with a single light controlled by two physical switches, and then replace one of the physical switches with a smart switch? (And then hide all the wiring for the smart side of things so you end up with physical switch and app.)

Yes.

I have 2 way switching, however, I just use input terminals on a Shelly 1 on one side. Switches behave as they should but I can also override and set schedules via the app.

@Carrerahill Where did you tuck away the "extra" wires and the Shelly 1 bits?

There are not really that many extra wires when you break it down, just wired differently, they are behind the light switches.

Or you can put the Shelly up in the ceiling void behind the fitting if there’s not enough room in the back box…

But only if he had a permanent live up there too.

If he had permanent live and switched live he could trigger the light in toggle mode on the shelly and also control via app/schedule.

Yep, that’s generally how I’ve done it. Although tbf I’ve only done the rooms I’ve refurbed so far.

A centralised switching position would be a far stronger call if you’re starting from scratch. Especially with the newer Ethernet devices.
