Soffit lights

Hey,

We were looking at getting soffit downlights lights put in. Noticed when taking the ventilation covers off, there is a soffit above the pvc soffit, which would need to be drilled to accommodate the light fixture.

Is there a risk in doing this? The house is from 1982, so wondering if the other soffit is an ACM.

Maybe that's why it has been over-boarded. Soffit and fascia upgraders love to just pin straight over rotten wood but that gap is very suspicious.

You can buy an asbestos test on amazon

We've actually bit the bullet and are getting a survey done instead.  Would it be an overly big job to remove if it does come back as an ACM?

We had a 1970s place that had pvc soffits over ACM ones. Not dissimilar to yours in style.

Only cost about £900 odd for full perimeter soffit removal and disposal., (vs like £4500 for architects recommended company). Got all the paperwork for proper disposal and they were registered.

That‘s reassuring, I will explore removal if the survey comes back with anything.
