Can you please clarify what the issue would be with an anode?

Generally if the tank is enamelled steel then an anode is fitted to prevent corrosion. The anode has to be checked at intervals and to do this means draining down the tank to below the anode so it can be removed for inspection.

I am a bit mystified by EASHP which also reheats the ventilation

In the Genvex Combi I had, the EASHP extracts heat from the MVHR exhaust which provides heat for heating the DHW, and if required, the space heating by heating the supply air from the MVHR to the rooms. When the EASHP is running the exhaust air from the MVHR is extremely cold and can cause small amounts of ice to form around the exhaust vent. This sort of system is very different from the older type DHW EASHP which uses air from inside the house to provide heat to heat the DHW.

Do you actually need 3phase? I was quoted about £4000 for the upgrade, over and above the £2k it was going to cost anyway to move the existing single phase meter head, and I couldn't bring myself to pay it even though it would have made my solar installation a bit simpler (no need for G99 permission).

in retrospect Installing 3ph would also have added extra project risk (time line to close and dig up the road, during lockdown as it turned out, and delays in getting a 3ph smart meter, etc).

Obviously if you have a hard requirement for 3ph then go ahead, as you say £10k is not the highest quote ever for what is in essence a complete new supply

Looking longer term the three phase allows the installation of a 22kw vehicle charger (vs 7kw max on single phase). This reduces the time for a full car charge by two thirds. In a household of 2 or 3 cars which each take 10-12 hours to complete a full charge on single phase this may be quite a benefit.
