eunique Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Just started a new build in Surrey and getting hit with all sorts of charges from Runnymede council and Buildzone etc some of which include VAT. One that has really got my goat is: Insurance Premium £1,925.00 Insurance Premium Tax (12%) £231.00 Total Premium (inc. IPT) £2,156.00 Site Audit Fee (inc. VAT) £1,074.00 Note that HMRC states that Fees are deemed to be a service to the Insurers and the VAT is non-reclaimable. are tptb taking the michael?
Conor Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 (edited) VAT on professional services/surveys, finance fees, hire costs etc cannot be zero rated or reclaimed. Edited November 3, 2022 by Conor
Temp Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 +1 Most services are standard rated and not reclaimable. If there is any material supply on the same invoice (eg supply and fit) then the whole lot should be zero rated to you. It's always best to get a quote changed before you accept it. Much harder after the work has been done. Tip: If you don't have planing permission yet, include a landscaping plan in the drawing package and you can reclaim VAT on any trees on it (but not plants?). 1
eunique Posted November 22, 2022 Author Posted November 22, 2022 tks. bit late i suspect. planning permission done and dusted. methinks tptb pick and choose what they allow developers to reclaim. logic or justice doesnt seem to form part of the decision process.
