Newbie To Extensions Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 We purchased an old house which requires major renovation. We are in the process of planning a rear extension to the property. The plan is to move the kitchen which is to the front of the property to the rear extension. However we were recently warned by one of the neighbours that all the properties in this row of the estate have their kitchen in the front for a reason, appearently back in 1960's this was due to the drain levels he said. He was saying that if we build the kitchen in the rear we may have to use a pump for the drain. I had no idea about this until the neighbour mentioned. Is this something the builder would have realised during the extension, how big could this issue be with respect to causing us to spend more? Is there anything we could do from our end to find out if this is an issue at all before commencing the work. Any advice in this regard would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Conor Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Yeah, get a drain CCTV / surevy company round to check your inverts and the public sewer levels etc. Fairy standard. Or even if you are getting a Topo survey done that surveyor should be able to get it done. But a CCTV survey will tell you everything.
Dave Jones Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 lift manhole and measure the invert of the drain with respect to the DPC course of your house. do the math, 13mm of fall per M.
