JamesMaxwell
Hi All, i thought the best place to start when taking on anything new is find a community that can help with some good old word of mouth and collective knowledge. My projects have got bigger over the years from a dining table, to rebuilding cars, and now i want to build a house! logical progression right? I've yet to iron out a proper business plan, but have some aspirations of what I would like to achieve, I have some disposable income, and looking for a good community of people to help me get started. I look forward to meeting you all. Regards
joe90
Welcome James, lots of knowledge here from people that have actually been there done that so bring on the questions.
JamesMaxwell
Oh that sounds exciting and exactly what I need. thank you. I think my task leading into my 1st question is, I need to put a project plan together to work out the affordability of the project. Is this easy to do yourself or is it worth getting an agent involved for land acquisition, planning, and general cost gathering? Or am i too far ahead in my thinking and there i a step I've missed? So far I'm a man with no plan but a good vision, so need to start from square 1.
Iceverge
Welcome welcome. You sound fairly adept. Nothing in building is as complex as mechanicing a car however the project's scale and the breath of ways to skin the cat are daunting. If you are planning on doing the work yourself I'd start small. Literally build a model of your idea. Even a crude one will take absolutely ages and you'll realise how poorly planned out it was to begin with. It seems trivial but it really replicates an actual house build. Very different from modelling on a company or drawing one.
JamesMaxwell
Interesting idea, I've always wanted to do some model making. I've done large D&B projects for my offices over the years in the UK and Bulgaria, but always used companies to act as agents for the purchase of buildings, and then used management companies for the cata and catb fit out. Most intricate job was dealing with the power network and building a substation on site because we had too much draw. I hope when it comes to being my own money and project it does not make it any more scary and I cope with the challenge.
