Wilbur1969
Hi We are looking at building a side and rear two storey extension and I would like to use ICF for the wall construction, it looks a good self-build option, uses minimal skilled labour and is relatively quick to construct, my first question is how would I tie in the ICF blocks to the original brick and block walls? I was thinking of using rebar secured into holes drilled into the brickwork, interested to know what others have done. Vijay
standard wall ties? https://www.screwfix.com/p/sabrefix-wall-starter-kit-stainless-steel/56037?kpid=56037&ds_kid=92700065972061616&ds_rl=1249407&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=CjwKCAjwhNWZBhB_EiwAPzlhNiBRZStejfxw3WdXtkAPcl9bSVZT_S--brU4-QZaYIJ96ElOvZiBPBoCfNEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds That's how I'm attaching my internal walls to my ICF Edited September 30, 2022 by Vijay
markc
Main thing here is tying foundations together. Brickwork can and does move slightly without any problems, a concrete wall has very little give or flex so any differential foundation movement can/will open cracks in the brickwork. Ensuring no heave or settlement is the key in the new foundations
