Austrian
I have to replace a badly corroded water tank in Austria. The tank is the same as this one: The immersion heater goes where the circular section is towards the bottom using a flange with 8 screws. Googling German websites this seems to be a standard setup although not something I've seen before. A typical immersion heater would be like this one here https://www.heiz24.de/Tuerk-amp-Hillinger-electric-heating-rod-EHS-300KW-400V-G114installation-length-260mm-new#anker. Are such immersion heaters and flanges available in the UK (I'm not finding them when I search)? If so, can you post a link please. Many thanks for any help. Trw144
Does the flange have a DN40 immersion connection in the middle? That is the size shown on the one on your link, if so I may have one.
JohnMo
Confused, you say you have to replace the cylinder, but seem concerned where to get an immersion for the old cylinder. Wouldn't you buy a new cylinder, it either come with immersion or doesn't, if it doesn't you ask for one to be supplied with new cylinder.
Austrian
This is a link to the flange the tank manufacturer also supplies. The reason I want to try and source the immersion heater and flange separately, ideally in the UK, is because a) I have time (thanks to "supply chain problems" it won't be delivered before March next year and b), and more importantly, is that this is where the corrosion has occurred. I want to try and get more corrosion proof items if possible. Hope this makes sense
JohnMo
So your opening sentence is not correct, you are not replacing the cylinder, only a flange. From the image of the cylinder it looks like an internally coated cylinder, if it is would normally have an anode to protect the cylinder from corrosion. These are replaced annually or every two years depending on material. In the long term I would be replacing with stainless or copper cylinder. If the flange is corroded I would be looking closely everywhere.
Austrian
No, I AM replacing the cylinder. There is far too much corrosion around the where the flange is screwed into the tank. I wouldn't be able to replace the flange with any confidence it wouldn't leak. I'm replacing like with like as I don't want to change the plumbing (bloody expensive in Austria).
