Independent mvhr / ventilation

I have just bought a house built late 60s/70. Windows and doors are in good shape and reasonably sealed, but obviously it’s not to modern standards. We are looking to open up the kitchen , which means kitchen, dining room and living room will all be one area. Currently we notice that unless the windows are open the sun is making the rooms pretty warm. So if we go out it’s hot as can’t leave windows open.

we have radon gas in the area, so that’s something we would like to avoid. Presently from my limited research it looks like some kind of extraction system would help move the air around and stop it being stuffy during the warm months, could also help with the radon. Ideally would like some heat recovery so we aren’t  pumping heat out during the colder months.

looking for ideas of what we should be looking at.

We have MVHR. Its main benefit is constant ventilation in the winter when we don't have doors and windows open.

If money is tight I would look at improving insulation in walls and roof first, then possibly MVHR and perhaps external shutters or roller blinds on south and west facing windows?

Unless your airtightness is better than 3m3/m2 you would be wasting loads of money and time installing MVHR.

You would be better with dMEV, constant background ventilation low running cost, easy to install.  You can get them so they operate the ventilation rate based humidity, increase and decrease ventilation rates.
