My extention kicks off next week and trying to work out the best way of incorporating a wet ufh system into the new and also the old. We will be knocking our existing kitchen diner through into the new extension to increase the size. The existing is a concrete floor built in 1985 and not sure if there would be insulation underneath or not. I'm happy running in a loop for the extension ontop of the insulation prior to screening, but would like to have some ideas about how to tackle the existing so that it will hopefully feel similar in heat to the new. I have seen a floor chasing machine that cuts grooves in the floor specifically for ufh pipes so may look to do this. I don't really want to go down the route of using the surface insulation boards if I can help it, It will raise the floor height to much from when we enter the hallway and also the idea of the pipes being so close to the floor tiles I'd be concerned about feeling colder patches. Olf Posted January 10, 2022 Share Posted January 10, 2022 Unless you have to (in my case extension and other changes removed all the existing downstairs radiators with no sensible place for alternatives, ) or really want to (realising cost and disruption of taking up existing floor and making a new one appropriate for UFH) then forget it and install UFH in extension only.
