Dry ridge system

Please can anyone advise if it’s better to use plastic trays under the dry ridge system ? I realise it’s normally used on hip ridges , just wondered if it would offer extra protection from the elements and ensure the ridge sits straight.

it may help you to run a string line to get the edge straight, also work out the cut at the end first as it looks better with an equal cut at both ends.
