Question
Our builder is adamant that MDF(18mm water proof) is OK to replace about 1 square meters of floorboards. On top of the MDF will be the 6mm of plywood, then a cushion material and then tiles. A toilet will be on top of all this. Can you advise me whether this is OK or not please. DragsterDriver
My short answer is because, just no. I guess the proper answer is it’s not a structural material for floors- but you know this or wouldn’t be asking
Question
We had to accept it, as they walked off the job when we asked them about it and lots of work was not completed. They told us not to tell them how to do their job, and that we were talking nonsense. They thought we were overanxious. My concern is that MDF is not used for load bearing and does not last as long as the porcelain tiles on top. DragsterDriver
I’m sure it will be fine. Don’t suppose for a minute they’ll put in writing “MDF Floor is fine”.
Question
Thanks. I find it really annoying that with a tiny bit more effort, they could have done the right thing. We are happy to pay more for the right material. Edited October 9, 2021 by Question
