Amdrew Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Hi has anybody had success laying Indian stone in winter? I no its not a good time to start but I'm doing all my garden up first timer and thinking of laying Indian stone in December time when I get to that stage many thanks
PeterW Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 No issues with laying any patio in winter, but just add frost proofer to any mortar or bedding to be sure. Also worth sealing Indian sandstone before laying it to stop mortar marks.
Amdrew Posted October 4, 2020 Author Posted October 4, 2020 Okay thanks is it 150mm I will need to dig to use as a, sub base for the hardcore the motar and the Indian stone
PeterW Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 Depends on your current ground but 150mm is about right as you need to get to a solid base, lay two layers of MOT1 and compact it well and then your bed of semi dry mix to bed the tiles on.
avabanana Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 100mm should suffice unless ground is clay in which case sometimes 300mm is not sufficient. Sandstone should only be sealed after remaining dry for 72 hours or you'll seal in moisture. Laid many patios in winter. Never again.
Dave Jones Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 There are no nhbc approved frost additives for morter. Use at own risk.
