Damaged electrical cables

Recommended Posts

Quick scenario for you ...

Electricians installed outside wiring prior to soffits going in above garage doors.

When the main contractor’s guys were fitting the soffits they damaged the cables.

Supervisor on site called the electrician (he isn’t part of the main contractor’s team - we sought him and his guys, so we’re paying direct) as the cables needed moving ‘urgently’ so not to hold them up.

The electrician left a job he was on and rushed straight over only to find the cables were in exactly the right place. Seems the ‘urgency’ was to replace the damaged cables before they were buried under the deep soffits.

The electrician has sent us an invoice for £70 for the cables and 2 hours labour which we’ve passed on to the main contractor.

MC is disputing it saying he knew nothing about it. Clearly the supervisor didn’t tell him, and said supervisor is now on holiday.

It’s not a lot of money, but it’s the principle. They’ve already stung us for over £13k for items we’ve disputed but ended up having to agree to the extra costs. Long story.

WWYD? Drop it, or ask them to take it off our bill?
