Mart6061
Hello to all. I very early in the journey to self build in the Scottish highlands. We have no plot yet and open to looking at much of the highlands . Like many I have always wanted to DIY selfbuild as far as possible. We will use professional when needed, required or make economic sense. I'm fairly committed to passive house and happy for that to influence construction and design. I would also like to take a practical sustainable approach to materials. Eg timber, wood fibre etc but we will still use concrete in the foundation. I can't call myself an environmentalist but where option are available I'll use them. Early design are around the timber clad steading style with metal roof. Similar to hebhomes or r.house. the construction methods I like at this stage are the interallaly sheathed I beams similar to PH15 and touchwood on an insulated raft foundation. Ground floor about 250m with a down stairs master bedroom and two additional bedrooms upstairs. There is such a depth of experience on this site that I'm looking forward to leveraging into my project and then hopefully I can give something back. Hold on to your optimism and energy. And good common sense approach to standards. We need folk like you to energise us. Thanks for joining.
