Just leveled Garage floor with floor leveling compound & wanted to paint it? Epoxy? Please help!

Recommended Posts

Hi

Am new on here and wanted to ask your advice please, I just leveled the garage floor with mapei ultimate leveller 1210 self-levelling floor compound from screwfix as wanted a nice surface to put my rust-oleum epoxyshield garage floor coating kit on and have just opened the box and it says it is not recommended for this! I went on screwfix website and in Q&A people are asking if they can paint over it and there seems to be this automated response: Unfortunately we do not stock any flooring products at Screwfix which can be painted, we would advise speaking to your local Screwfix representative for further assistance.

So as far as i can see I can either use what i have and see if works and if so do i paint straight onto floor leveler or do i pva it first? Or

Buy some UltraFloor Level IT Top which does allow for heavy traffic and allows to be resin painted and see if that will go over my existing floor leveler?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers Jay

Mapei 1210 isn’t hard enough to be a wearing surface so you should be topping it off with something else such as ultra TT or another product. Paint will stick to the current one, but poorly, and it will dint and chip quickly.

Thanks for replies gentlemen I think I am going to spend the money and lay the ultra TT over the top and then paint on the top with the Rust Resin epoxy.

Would no nonsesense pva be ok for the primer between the floor leveler and the  ULTRA-FLOOR LEVEL IT HD TOP? Or do I need to get something else?  Also never used the Ultra TT HD top or similar is it same to make up and mix as normal leveler?

Once again a Huge thankyou for your help and guidance.

Hi buddy, so it would seem I'm in exactly the same situation as you..

I levelled my garage with 1210 and intended to use it as a wearing surface. Noticed pretty quickly that this wouldn't work.

I just put down a decent thick layer of high performance setcrete which is usable as a wearing surface.. but I'm unsure if I can paint this with epoxy paint.

I've messaged the company but also thought I'd check what you did in the end.. and how you got on.

Cheers in advance for any advice.

James
