canalsiderenovation
Our buildings & contents insurance is up for renewal. We will be starting work by June/July on our bungalow (Covid and builder dependent) renovation/extension which is likely to take 6 months and living in it as long as we can but ultimately we will have to move out at some point. Do we just look for standard buildings insurance or should we be looking for more specific insurance. Can anyone point me in the direction of sites to use and if there is a comparison site as such. Mr Punter
Carry on with your own household insurance and make sure the builder has a contractors all risks cover or similar.

Do we need to take out any additional insurance though for work being done to our house? It seems though if we have just standard buildings and contents it is void if we are having work done. Jeremy Harris
I took out a renovation policy to cover the final year of our build, when the house was built, the site was no longer a building site and all we needed was insurance to cover the rebuild cost plus the risks associated with the final fit out. Contact your insurance company, tell them what work you are having done and ask them to confirm if you are still insured. Often if you are not living at the property you may need a special policy but again, ask them to clarify.
