Adoldn
Hi everyone - Adam here. After about 10 years of working and saving I’m finally in a position to buy some land and build-to-rent - and hopefully build up a property portfolio for myself. I’ve never owned, renovated or built a home before and I don’t know any tradespeople or contractors - so this should be interesting to say the least! I’ll be doing this alongside my full-time job, so I’ll need to find as much of a turnkey planning/design/build solution as possible. I’ve found some well-priced plots in the Liverpool area, that have either planning permission or pre-application approval - so once I’ve gone through the economics/process of the complete project, I’ll go ahead and buy some land. Any advice would be great. Thanks
ToughButterCup
You are very welcome. Building to rent : implies close cost control..... and I've lost count of self builder colleagues who have found that a real challenge. Me? Nay borra Jimmie .. made o' money ? Adoldn
@AnonymousBosch I am indeed preparing for the worst. I manage IT projects for a living - costs can't spiral any more uncontrollably than those surely?!
ToughButterCup
Yeah.... you talk about Turnkey stuff - much easier to control costs there I would think.
Adoldn
@AnonymousBosch yeah, that's what I'm looking for at the moment: turnkey builders in the Northeast that get paid by milestone completion (foundation, watertight structure erected, finished - or something to that effect). Bizarrely, it seems that the UK market is made up of ultra-large housebuilders and smaller/specialised local contractors that need to be managed on-site. Struggling to find a small/medium main contractor that offers a-z construction services.
