I was thinking of buying a di vessel and getting a couple of clean IBC’s to filter the water into to prevent build up of crap inside the heating pipes.. No need for that. The crap that can build up is corrosion products. Put corrosion inhibitor in it. Follow makers instructions on the concentration required - more than one bottle maybe needed. The maximum power we can put into our hot water heat storage system is 2.8 kW, and that could be very easily met by the excess power available from the ASHP. Sorry, yes, I should have said it'd not be “massively oversized”. It'd only be a little bit oversized.
Rob55
Gentlemen, thanks to your input above we have now ordered a Samsung Gen 6 ASHP (9kw). The SAP Calc for the house is 6-7kw heat loss so both my supplier and underfloor contractor both agreed that 9kw was ample in size. I hope it does a great job and doesn't cost the earth in electricity!!
