Hello I’m hoping you could kindly provide me with the key points that I need to consider please. I am very interested in purchasing a new build home (not yet built) and the house will be built to Passivhaus standards however my query relates to the roof. It is proposed that the house I would like to purchase will have a standing seam metal profile roof. I don’t yet know what metal will be that will be used for the roof and I'm not sure that I will be given a choice. It is also proposed there will also be PV panels on one side of the roof too (south facing). I do work in the housing industry but I’m not familiar with standing seam metal profile roofs. Are there questions that I should be asking the developer please? I did read that metal roofs can be noisy in the rain but I don’t know if that will be a concern as there will be the loft space between the roof and the bedrooms. I’d be very grateful to hear of any key points that you think I need to consider and wondered what people’s opinions are of standing seam metal profile roofs are please? Thank you very much for any replies.

Just been on my roofing course provided by Catnic using Tata steel standing seam roof. Great one day course provided free of charge incl lunch. Full demo on how to set out and complete your roof and the tools you will need. I know @Barney12 has had an awful experience with Colourcoat Urban which uses the same product but since I found out Catnic are now supplying this product I cannot speak highly enough of the service they have provided so far. Numerous queries over our roof design have all been answered almost immediately and the guy presenting the course said you can contact him with any questions. You get a very helpful installation booklet, T-shirt and a certificate to go on the wall when the house is finished.

My aluminium statnding seam roof is currently being installed. It looks great from a distance. Up close however every seam is scratched at the crimping point. The crimping tool is bare metal with no rubber edges to protect the roof. The metal roof installers are not on site today hence I've not had a chance to discuss this with them yet. Is this acceptable?

We've opted (subject to planners agreement) to switch from a standing seam roof to a corrugated alternative very much like the attached image (Dualchas design) . We're surrounded by farms and it's very much the local style. I've started looking at material options and have come across a Marley Eternit fibre cement board profile solution. Claims of noise reduction, reduced condensation and increased lifespan sound good but what would be the downsides over traditional steel options and has anyone used similar? This might be relevant to @Visti who I think is planning something similar.
