We're a very long way off planning the kitchen yet, but I like to start my research early. Does anyone have any experience or particular opinions on induction hobs? Our new place doesn't have gas and I do like the easy to clean sleek look of induction hobs. I've used gas hobs fuelled by bottled gas plenty of times and found them to be perfectly satisfactory, but don't really fancy having to lug bottles of gas around. My sister in law is a chef and expressed a very positive opinion about induction, but she hasn't actually cooked on them and I think she largely felt that she ought to have a firm opinion, given her day job.

Electrical challenge number 2 - what size of cable for the range cooker I'm told we want? TLC calc https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/Charts/VoltageDrop.html used and for the following criteria this is what it suggests: SWA (2 core) PVC, 14m and load of 15kw (looked up the installation instructions) suggests 10mm - does this sound right? The cable will run in the ceiling void with 50mm of insulation above it ( about 150mm above it). Will check with the sparky who signs my work off but always worth an ask here... This should be the last challenge wiring wise! Desperate to get some outside work done - I need a change from inside.

Has anyone fitted an induction hob into a quartz worktop. I've bought a bosch induction hob and cant figure out how it is fixed to the worktop. The hob comes with rails that are screwed into the side of the appature that is cut in the worktop and then the hob clicks into the rail. I dont think you can screw into quartz and the instruction states not to stick the hob down? It's a bosch PXY875KW1E if that helps.

Hi All Just looking for some opinions..... I'm looking at putting an induction hob with built in extraction into a kitchen island (2m x 1.2x) and after much deliberation I think I've decided on going with Bora. It seems that there are definitely more options for this type of hob/extractor combo now than a couple of years ago when I started planning my build. I've had a look at AEG, Neff, Siemens and Caple as well as Bora and from reading posts here and generally online it seems like Bora is way to go. I have a couple of question for those who have induction hobs and Bora in particular as I'm undecided on whether to go with BFIU or BIU versions. 1. Is having a flexi zone really worth it? I've never actually used a flexi zone, just normal induction and the difference in cost of the 2 Bora models is approx £850 with the difference being the flexi zone, about 70mm in width and a slightly different touch control panel. tying to decide if it's worth the cost difference! 2. For re-circulation Bora just duct back into the service void behind the kitchen cabinet and vent into it with the air working its way down and then our over the plinth. Just worried about any potential issues with moist air etc sitting behind/under the cabinet.... or am I worrying unnecessarily! Thanks Alex

I'm always keeping an eye on induction hobs as this is what I eventually plan to have in our new house. A really interesting (to me!) article is in the latest issue of Which? They compared a best buy Samsung NZ63J977OEK at £799 with a New World IHF60T at £254. The Samsung got a score of 80% whilst the New World got 79%. Barely a gnat's whisker between the two for performance (Which? comment that the Samsung is slightly quicker) but a whopping price differential. The cheapest current supplier for the New World is Argos.
